Lagos to host International school athletics championship

The stage is now set for the maiden International Schools Athletics Championship to be staged by Sports Business Network , a brain child of Olympic gold medalist Aniefiok Udo- Ebong in conjunction with Lagos State Athletics Association.
Udo- Ebong who won a gold medal in 4×400 meters at Sydney 2000 Olympics said the championship will involve some private schools and some West African countries such as Ghana and Togo while the best public schools in the six education divisions of Lagos will be invited to be part of the event which is for children between the ages of six and seventeen and will hold between March 14 and 19, 2022.
He also announced that registration of schools and individual athletes will close at the end of this month even as he announced there will be prizes for winners.
Meanwhile, Chairman of Lagos State Athletics Association, Dr. Solomon Alao has expressed gratitude over the championship and has set aside N5 million for the project.
He described it as a veritable platform through which children will have the opportunity to express their talents and also help in the discovery of talented athletes that will be developed to win laurels for the country in future.
Alao was optimistic that with corporate support, Nigeria will soon produce more world champions in athletics.
