But for the DD FC squad, fans can look forward to the skillful footwork of Basil Okewulonu and Bright Anyanwu, along with Anderson, a prominent figure in the club whose family legacy traces back to Imo football legend Dan Anyiam.
As a veteran club side in Owerri, DD FC is well-regarded for its squad of former professional players who continue to keep their competitive edge sharp.
Speaking ahead of the match, Imo SWAN Chairman Cosmos Chukwuemeka emphasized the importance of fitness and collaboration within the sports community.
“This game is not just about fitness; it’s a showcase of talent and a testament to the strong relationship between sports journalists and the athletes we cover,” Chukwuemeka stated.
“Events like this are essential for bridging the gap between sports professionals and the media, providing a platform for veteran clubs like DD FC to demonstrate their abilities and stay active in the game. We’re excited to kick off Imo SWAN Week with such an engaging event.”
DD FC President Bright Anyanwu also shared his enthusiasm, describing the match as a unique opportunity for veterans and ex-footballers to shine once more on the field. “We’re thrilled to be part of this match against Imo SWAN. It’s a chance for our players to reconnect with the game and for us to foster a spirit of unity with the sports media,” Anyanwu remarked.
“Many of us have spent years playing and training, and now we have the chance to showcase those experiences on the field, all while strengthening bonds with the journalists who bring our stories to life.”
The match is set to draw attention not only for the talent on display but for the chance to celebrate the enduring passion of veteran footballers who have kept their love for the game alive. In addition, this friendly match is expected to spark more initiatives that bridge the gap between athletes and sports writers, fostering an environment of mutual respect and support.
As the excitement builds for Saturday, spectators and supporters of both sides are invited to join in the fun at the ICAPS Playground, where this clash of fitness, skill, and experience will not only entertain but also inspire the next generation of sports enthusiasts and journalists alike.
