Imo: Uzodimma assigns portfolios to four commissioners
Four recently sworn in Commissioners in Imo State have been assigned portfolios by Governor Hope Uzodimma as the State’s Executive Council has given her approval on the pact the government has entered into with some partners for the establishment of Imo Digital City and the ‘Light Up Imo Project’.
The Commissioners and their portfolios are: Dr. Anthony Mgbeahurike (Commissioner for Livestock Development), Professor Boniface Nworgu (Commissioner for Labour and Employment) Dr. Elias Emedom (Commissioner for Special Projects), and Chief Kenneth Okafor (Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs).
The Imo Digital City and the ‘Light Up Imo Project,’ are directly linked to the Ministries of Digital Economy and E-Government, and that of Power and Electricity.
Briefing newsmen at the end of the Executive Council meeting, Thursday, the Commissioner for Information, Public Orientation and Strategy, Hon. Declan Emelumba said the benefits that would be derived from the partnership on Imo Digital City and the ‘Light Up Imo Project’ being piloted by Governor Uzodimma cannot be quantified.
The Commissioner was joined at the briefing by his colleagues from the Digital Economy and E-Government (Dr. Chimezie Amadi), Housing and Urban Development ( Rt. Hon. Bede Eke), Power and Electricity ( Eng. Nwabueze Oguchienti) and the Chief Press Secretary and Special Adviser, Media to the Governor, Oguwike Nwachuku.
Emelumba said: “Government had approved a partnership agreement with Orashi Electricity Company and the 27 local governments to generate, transmit, and distribute electricity across the State.”
He added: “This marks a significant step towards realising the ‘Light Up Imo Project’, which is expected to be completed within the next few months.”
Emelumba equally said government had also approved a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Silicon Valley-based partners from the United States for the establishment of Imo Digital City Company Limited, pointing out that government will provide land and infrastructure for the project, which aims to develop a digital ecosystem in the State.
Additionally, in the area of youth engagement, he said the Ministry of Youth Development and Talent Hunt got approval to organise a youth marathon and stakeholders’ engagement summit to sensitise youths on the need for positive engagement and to address insecurity in the State.
Emelumba also reported that the people of Ideato nation sent special appreciation letter to the Governor for the massive road construction in their area, especially the recovery of Orlu-Mgbee-Umuchima-Akokwa Road, which had remained impassable due to erosion before Governor Uzodimma’s intervention.
The group had equally expressed gratitude to the Governor for the ongoing road rehabilitation projects in different parts of Ideato.
