NBBF: Group raises alarm over plots to disrupt election slated for Benin

By Lanre Owolabi

A group of sports stakeholders, enthusiasts and journalists under the aegis of Friends of Nigeria Sports( FNS), have raised alarm over purported plans by some disgruntled individuals to disrupt and unleash violence at the Nigeria Basketball Federation elections slated to hold October 30, 2021, in Benin, Edo state.

According to the press release by FNS, it has been discovered that some individuals are bent on disrupting the electoral process.
” We are aware of plans to disrupt the elections, based on frivolous allegations that the present chairman of NBBF caretaker committee, Engr. Musa Kida, didn’t allow some unaccredited individuals to air their views and of course, unleash mayhem at the congress.
” As a group genuinely concerned about the fortunes of Nigerian sports, we want to unequivocally state that we won’t allow any group or individual to scuttle the democratic process of electing officers to a new board of NBBF, for selfish and self-aggrandizing reasons.
It could be recalled that the election into the players’ rep and technical slots held last Saturday, was mirred in violence, allegedly unleashed by sponsored thugs.
