Disu backs NFF on Eguavoen, Amuneke

Former Flying Eagles handler Coach Tunde Disu said that the Nigeria Football Federation deserves commendation for believing in the county’s coaches following the appointment of Austin Eguavoen and Emmanuel Amuneke as national team handlers.
The NFF a fortnight ago announced the duo as Super Eagles handlers and Disu believes that the two are capable of qualifying Nigeria for the Qatar 2022 World Cup.
He told our correspondent yesterday that both coaches having played the game at the highest level coupled with their coaching experience are perfect match to handle the senior national team positing that it is a wise decision which must be applauded by all.
“I’m happy with the appointment because its an indication that the NFF now believes in what our indigenous coaches can do. Both Eguavoen and Amuneke are eminently qualified for the job because they’ve played the game at the highest level and since retirement have being involved in one coaching job or the other and I have no doubt in my mind they will deliver”, he stressed.
The former Technical Director of NFF however cautioned the coaches to work in harmony and avoid unnecessary argument over who is the head coach as that can spoil the fun for them, insisting that once they work and share ideas together, they’ll succeed and win the World Cup playoff against arch rivals Ghana in March.
According to him with both coaches on the saddle, he expect Amuneke as a former wing player to introduce wingers in the team which the present Super Eagles is lacking.
Disu who is known for his 1989 Daman miracle while apologising to Nigerians on behalf of the country’s coaches for the crashing out of the Super Eagles in the round of 16 of the just concluded AFCON finals in Cameroon advised the football ruling house to ensure early camping of the team before their game against Black Stars of Ghana.
” I want to use this opportunity and apologise to Nigerians on the poor performance of the national team in Cameroon. That result is not a true reflection of the quality of our indigenous coaches. It’ s unfortunate that it happened like that but I can assure them that Eguavoen and Amuneke will prove themselves and show Nigerians what our coaches are capable of doing.
” It’ s also important that the NFF should call the players to camp early to enable them reflect with the coaching crew and take stoke of what happened in Cameroon and block all loopholes before their game against Ghana” concluded the Executive Secretary of Lagos Junior League.
