Scrabble players across the country have a reason to converge again for contest, camaraderie and rating points as the 5th installment of the Janet Adowei Memorial Scrabble Championship will hold in Lagos from November 16 to 18.
JAMSC, an initiative of former Lekki Scrabble Club President Ebikeme Adowei was introduced into the Nigerian circuit to immortalise his late mother and develop the game.
The tournament has played a vital role in discovering talents and keeping players’ mind sharp and developing their intelligence as they prepare for future tournaments in the mindgame.

Interestingly, this edition will take a huge significance as it’s holding just weeks to the National Sports Festival taking place in Ogun State next January.
A top prize of 750,000 naira will be contested for at the two-day tournament scheduled to hold in Gbagada, Lagos.
Significantly, the tournament has never been short of spot prizes as participants were usually rewarded.
Chief Superintendent of Police Femi Okunowo who is the chairman of Nigeria Police Scrabble was one of top dignitaries who paid a visit during the last edition where about 100 players participated.

One of the major highlights at the last edition was when the eventual winner Ryan Jacob created a shockwave as he maintained a nine-straight win on Day 2 to finish with 14 wins and just two losses.
It would be recalled that Olumide Oyejide won the inaugural edition in 2020 while Olatunde Oduwole claimed the second edition.
Current African Scrabble Championship No. 2 George Ezinore emerged as champion at the third edition in 2022.
