Sports, only sector that holds Nigeria together -Iwuanyanwu

A sports philantropist and owner of defunct Iwuanyanwu National FC, Owerri, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu has identified sports as the only sector that is still holding Nigeria together.

He declared that other sectors that are supposed to do the same have all failed and gone except sports which has remained very important to human development in terms of national image and character.

Addressing members of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Imo State Chapter, in his office during their courtesy visit, the business mogul added that sports has actually made the nation great.

Iwuanyanwu pointed out the his story cannot be complete without dedicating it to sports, even as he assured SWAN of his support.

He said Nigeria has not attained greatness because of the way the fathers of the nation have kept it. He charged the youths to rise up to the challenges in order to salvage the nation.

He described as unfortunate the present situation in which the nation is populated by youths who are into 419, Yahoo yahoo, drop outs among others resulting from lack of care by leaders.

According to the BOT member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Nigerian youths may not be bad, but regretted their abandonment by some leaders of the country.

He decried a situation where  the youths after spending time in school do not have a job.  

Earlier in his speach, the chairman of Imo SWAN, Comrade Everest Ezihe commended Iwuanyanwu, describing him as a pillar of sports nationally and internationally.

He noted that Chief Iwuanyanwu who is a patron of SWAN largely invested in sports development both in the state and in the country adding that through sports, he had also invested in human capacity.

The chairman used the visit to intimate Iwuanyanwu of the plans by the national body of SWAN to honour him as an icon of sports in the country. 

He said sports writers feel highly honoured to be associated with a leader like Iwuanyanwu, adding that their visit was to give honor to whom it is due.
