Lagos FA Honours Late Chairman Christian Chukwu With A Minute Silence
It was an epochal moment for late Nigerian football legend Christian Chukwu, as the Lagos State Football Association under the leadership of Hajji Gafar Liameed moved the train to honour late Chukwu with a respect from the grassroots to the apex of Nigerian football.
In its characteristic pacesetting style, the Lagos FA gave a deserved one minute silence to the deceased former captain and coach of the Super Eagles, beginning with the week 33 NPFL match between Ikorodu City and Niger Tornadoes played Sunday at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, as well as, during the finals of the Lagos State U15 Football League also played Sunday, inside the Mainbowl of the National Stadium, Surulere, and other Lagos FA sanctioned matches, across different centres in the state. And with all the players and officials, donning the black armbands.
Speaking during the U-15 league finals, Hajji Liameed explained that the late iconic player deserves all honours and accolades being given to him.
“We respect and celebrate this fallen hero of Nigeria and African football. Remember, that he led Nigeria to win 1980 African Cup of Nations, here right inside the Mainbowl of the National Stadium, Surulere, in Lagos.
“Lagos FA shall retain and of course, improve upon its pace setting in all of its ramifications, by continually doing football according to the best global practices,” he enthused.
