The Lagos Scrabble family last weekend, bestowed an award of excellence on Olufemi Ade-Wahab for being a staunch member during his 60th birthday and retirement celebration party held in Lagos.
The architect who was among workers who retired from active service with the Lagos State Civil Service has remained dedicated to the game despite the demands of his profession.
At a ceremony held to celebrate his diamond anniversary and his successful retirement from service in Isheri-North, Chairman of the Lagos State Scrabble and Monopoly Association (LASSMA) Engr. Dipo Akanbi led the group which included Nigeria Scrabble Federation (NSF) Players’ Representative Segun Durojaiye and members of his club Pyramid SC to present him with the award.
The club are the current National Inter-Club champions.
Speaking after presenting the plaque to the celebrant, Engr. Akanbi described him as a dedicated staunch personality who has contributed in no small measure in keeping the game going over the years.
He added that Archy as he’s fondly called has always been a positive force propelling the scrabble community with his resources while also serving as the link between the older and the younger players and as a role model for many.
“We are all happy to celebrate with Architect Olufemi Ade-Wahab for attaining 60 year old. This occasion is also to celebrate his retirement from the the Lagos State Civil Service as a Director after 28 years of meritorious service.
So we as his family in Lagos Scrabble recognises the huge role he plays as a member of our club Pyramid SC and the nation in general. He is been a good man and a leveler who is ready to accommodate everyone especially as far as the game is concern. That’s why we came out in our numbers regardless the distance to celebrate with him and also appreciate the good works he has been doing with the award of excellence.”
As a mark of honour, players engaged each other in an 8-man retreat to celebrate the sexagenarian.
Family, friends, colleagues and associates graced the colourful dual occasion which matched the reasons for the celebration.
