Unite The World Peace Torch Foundation holds road walk in memory of late Head of State, Murtala Mohammed

A non governmental organization, Unite the world peace torch foundation has organised a road work to remember the late Head of State General Murtala Ramat Mohammed.
Gen. Mohammed was assassinated on February, 13, 1976 by mindless coupists led by late Lt. Col Buka Suka Dimka of the Nigerian Army.
Speaking shortly after the road work which took place at the National Stadium Surulere Lagos on Tuesday, February, 13, 2024 which was the 48th anniversary of his death, President of the organisation, Messenger Benson Imiavan Ovbiosa said they decided to organise the walk as a mark of respect to an illustrious son of Africa and an exemplary leader who.played a key role in keeping Nigeria together during the Nigerian civil war even as he regretted that after 48 years of his assassination, nobody has deemed it fit to remember him.
” We organised this walk to remember an illustrious son of this great country who was brutally assassinated 48 years ago by mindless coupists.
” The late Murtala Ramat Mohammed was one of our national heroes who not only played a huge role in keeping. Nigeria one during the 1967- 1970 civil war but also left lasting impression as Head of State between 1975 and 1976 but painfully not much is being done to celebrate this national icon by the people and government of Nigeria in spite of his enormous contributions to our national development.
“It is on this basis that we of the Unite the World Peace Torch decided to organise this programme as our own way to celebrate our national hero. ”
Henceforth, this event will be an annual show and from next year it will be held nationwide”, he assured with confidence.
Ovbiosa appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to declare February 13 as public holiday in honour of General Muhammed who paid the supreme prize for national unity.
He also stated that members of his organisation are ready to organise the walk in any state that invites them, expressing hope that Murtala Mohammed’s home state, Kano will develop keen interest in the project aimed at immortalizing their son.
Highlight of the event was lighting a peace torch which symbolizes the peace and tranquility which the country witnessed during his short reign.
