AFN seeks Air Peace help to airlift athletes to African Championships

The board of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) has made a passionate appeal to one of Africa’s flagship carrier Air Peace to help them airlift members of ‘Team Nigeria’ Athletics to the African Seniors Athletics Championships in Douala, Cameroon.

AFN made this appeal to the Chairman/ CEO of Air Peace, Dr. Allen Onyema during the National AthIetics Trails in Benin City, Edo State

The body said it’s seeking a good discount to enable it take a chartered flight to Douala, Cameroon for the 2024 African Senior Championships.

The African championship holds between June 21-26 and the AFN wants ‘Team Nigeria’ athletes to depart the country either on Wednesday, June 19 or Thursday June 20 to enable them settle down before the start of activities in the economic capital of Cameroon.

Our correspondent gathered that the athletics body had written a letter to the CEO of Air Peace long ago requesting for a fair discount for the one-hour trip to enable the athletes travel together and perform well in Douala but they are yet to get a positive feedback.

“We know that Dr. Allen Onyema is running a private business, and it will not be healthy and patriotic for us to patronize other airlines while our own is over looked. But we need some discounts considering our poor financial situation,” AFN stated.

“Dr Allen Onyema has shown great love for Nigerian sports men and women over the year, and we need to patronize his business. He should help us also.” The AthIetics Federation pleads.
