Organisers of the much awaited Lekki Scrabble Classic have announced a top cash prize of one million naira as the tournament is set to hold in Lagos from September 27 to 28 this year.
The LSC known for it’s elegant atmosphere and exciting welcoming aura will see players compete in the Premier and Championship categories.
Players with ratings from 1300 to 2000 will stake their pride and ambition in the Premier class while those with ratings from 000-1299 will compete in the Championship division.
Organisers have further stated that players only licensed by the Nigeria Scrabble Federation will have the opportunity to participate in one of the most anticipated mind games championship in the country.
Meanwhile, the 18-round tournament has been rated by the NSF, the Pan African Scrabble Association (PANASA) and world body WESPA.
Lekki Scrabble Club President Samuel Anikoh who was excited to announce the details around the 2025 edition, re-emphased the desire of the Lagos-based club to push the development of the sport to a higher level by attracting the best of players from across the world to the classic.
Strategically, the LSC has helped in grooming young players and equipping them with the needed tournament experience required to compete at the international level as they play alongside top international stars who they’ve only read about or watched on television.

“We are excited to announce the activities for the 2025 Lekki Scrabble Classic! It’s been a long time of planning as we actually began immediately the 2024 edition ended.”
“We the Local Organising Committee agreed that the last edition was a success and we have done our review and have seen a few aspects where there are needs for improvements.
“This edition”, he continued, “is definitely going to be bigger in terms of organisation and we are expecting a high number of entries especially as our tournament is just a few weeks away from the WESPAC world championship taking place in Ghana this November.”
“Players will be competing in two different categories of the Premier and the Championship according to their ratings bracket. The LSC 2025 is going to be a great atmosphere of a festival for scrabble and trust us, we in the LOC will ensure everyone enjoys a great atmosphere at this edition.”
Anikoh who was visibly excited with the recent success recorded by Sophia Ekeruche after she claimed the World Youth Scrabble Championship Best Female Player title revealed that the club glad to be part of her global success.
“We are filled with joy to be part of the success story of Sophia Ekeruche at the World Youth Scrabble Championship in Malaysia where she became the Best Female Player at 14 years.”
“Remember, she had her first feel of a tournament scrabble when she teamed up with celebrity chef and scrabble enthusiast Hilda Baci for an exhibition game at the 2024 edition of Lekki Scrabble Classic.”
He also commended every member of the team including Abdulqudus Olawale, Prestige Archibong and Joy Eberechukwu for recording the best-ever outing for the country.
We believe this is just the beginning as more will be given the exposure required to create great stories for the sport and themselves.” he said.
