The 2025 edition of the Lekki Scrabble Classics is set to play a pivotal role for players aiming to make a huge mark at the World English Speaking Scrabble Players Association Championship (WESPAC) as top players including international stars are expected to be in Lagos for the Classics from September 27 to 28.
This year’s edition takes on a more significant status as it will serve as a precursor to the biennial world championship starting on November 9 to 17.
A rich-list of 120 players snapped up all available slots for the premium event which underlined the interest the tournament has gained over the years.
Many believed the tournament has taken on a new crucial importance especially with the WESPAC set to hold in Accra, Ghana in November few weeks after the completion of the two-championship.
The Classics which has evolved from a club meet to a national championship has witnessed a number of international players competing on the board for honour, glory and prizes.
LSC has been confirmed as one of the toughest fields in organised scrabble tournament going by the number and quality of players who are eager to renew and upgrade their status through rating points or as champions.
Current title holder Charles Tachie-Menson of Ghana re-confirmed the international level of the tournament as he clinched the one million naira prize in the presence of top Nigerian players as well as other contenders from United States, United Kingdom, Republic of Ireland and Uganda.
