Uche Samankwe Foundation receives thumbs up for poverty eradication mission

Worried by the Federal Government of Nigeria’s non chalant attitude towards eradication of poverty in the country, a legal luminary, Barr. Roland Uwakwe has joined other meaningful Nigerians in applauding, Prince Uchechukwu Samuel, the founder and financier of Uche Samankwe Foundation for his dogged passion in eradicating or reducing poverty in the nation.

Uwakwe stated this on Saturday at a prestigious hotel in New Owerri, Imo State in his speech during the well attended ceremony marking the unveiling of Uche Samankwe Foundation and presentation of her areas of focus with the theme: Uplifting Communities Through Charity, Capacity Building, and Education as part of the historical programmes marking the 2024 Celebration of International Day For The Eradication of Poverty.

According to the youthful legal icon, “We are gathered here to celebrate and recognise the efforts of the founder of UCHE SAMANKWE FOUNDATION, Prince Uchechukwu Samuel for collaborating with the efforts made by the international community and governments across the world to eradicate poverty which is the greatest enemy of man.

“Prince Uchechukwu Samuel has chosen to love humanity in a special way by sharing the resources that flows through him. He has chosen the life of impact over primitive accumulation of wealth as it is known in this part of the world.

“Let me also use this medium to call on well-meaning individuals to join hands with Prince Uchechukwu Samuel to send this enemy called poverty to the grave.

He also described poverty as an enemy of man, that attacks the very essence of living, pointing out that United Nations World Summit on Social Development described poverty as a condition characterized by several deprivation of basic human needs, including food, safe drinking water, health, shelter, education, sanitation, and information.

Uwakwe further informed that several efforts have been made by the international community, for the world leaders, particularly leaders in developing countries like Nigeria to pay adequate attention to the issues of poverty, that have essentially become a human right issue, as it destroys the dignity of the human person.

He expressed dismay that one of the loudest efforts made by the global community was introduction of the MDGs which was established to eradicate extreme hunger and poverty, but regretted that lack of comprehensive action plan and coordination by developing countries, the goals were not achieved by the end of 2015.

The Legal luminary expressed optimism that, “to achieve the above goals, the global community identified the need for collaboration, partnership, and mainstreaming in the achievement of the goals, this is because the fight against poverty can only be achieved through a collective effort, it is not just the responsibility of government, international development agencies, or few individuals. It is a collective fight” he assured.

Adding his voice, Dr. Afam Eche, a Journalist and a social crusader commended Non Governmental Organizations, NGOs for their humanitarian services to humanity, especially closing poverty gap through alleviation programmes.

Eche lambasted Nigerian leaders for aiding in impoverishing the populace through educational and social amenities denial as well as lack of environmental efforts for the creation of job opportunities, even as he commended Uche Samankwe Foundation for bridging the gaps through their immense philantropic and charity empowerment programmes.

The social crusader noted giving, as the phenomenal secrets of wealth creation stressing that in reality of life, heat lost is equals to heat gain.

He also observed that charity and philantrophy are products of the heart and care, while lamenting over the social vices the youths are compelled into as a result of the antics of subsequents bad governance and leadership.

Eche lamented that Nigerian society has lost its social values and the nation’s future looks blink, attributing these to systematic failures.

The Journalist canvassed the need to support wealth creations through agricultural supports and involvement, decrying the absence of yam barns in present day Igboland.

Eche who described himself as a traditionalist with firm believe in reincarnation,also cautioned against get rich quick syndrome among Nigerian youths, while attributing poor parental cares and upbringing as the major bane of the present Nigerian society.

He insisted that the best way to be happy and fulfilled in life, is to be a cheerful giver, describing giving as a natural instinct, even as he challenged wealthy Nigerians to be givers than receivers.
