Morocco Erupts in Celebration After Historic U-20 World Cup Triumph

Moroccan cities from the Capital, Rabat to Casablanca, erupted in celebrations with people trooping to the streets, blaring car horns, waving the country’s flag with fireworks as the country’s U-20 national team triumphed in the World Cup final with a stunning 2–0 victory over Argentina.

Head coach Mohamed Ouahbi described the victory as a reflection of Morocco’s steady football progress under the leadership of King Mohammed VI.

“We feel immense happiness. We remember all the challenges we went through to reach this stage and break barriers. We thank His Majesty the King for allowing us to live this moment and for his continuous encouragement of football development,” Ouahbi said.

He also extended his appreciation to Fouzi Lekjaa, President of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF), for his constant support and contribution to the growth of Moroccan football.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino also attended the final game along with Morocco’s Foreign Affairs Minister Nasser Bourita.

Zabiri won the silver ball award for his mesmerizing performance during the competition. Othmane Maama, meanwhile, won the Golden Ball award, recognizing his stellar and outstanding performances throughout the competition.

With this feat, Morocco not only become the first Arab nation to win the FIFA U-20 World Cup but also the second African country to lift the trophy, following Ghana’s 2009 triumph over Brazil in Egypt.
