National Deaf Players Mourn Coach Banjo
Members of the country’s national deaf team known as ‘Deaf Eagles’ have expressed shock over the sudden death of their Coach, Kamuldeen Banjo.
Coach Banjo who recently led the team to win a record 6th West African Deaf Football Championship title, died Thursday morning in his residence at Ikorodu.
According a family source, the coach woke up in the morning hale and hearty but suddenly slumped and was rushed to the hospital where he was confirmed dead by doctor.
Some of the players who spoke to Newstap com.ng expressed shock at his sudden demise even as they pray that God should grant his soul eternal rest and the family he left behind the fortitude to bear the irreplaceable loss
” We’ re still at a loss over his death. We were with him on Saturday and he never showed any sign of sickness. This was a man though not deaf but committed all his time to the development of deaf football.
“During his life time, he took it upon himself to learn sign language to be able to communicate with us effectively on and off the pitch.
“The vacuum created by his death will be too difficult to be filled but as humans, we can’t question God but to ask the Almighty to grant his soul eternal rest”, they noted with regret.
The coach left behind a wife and three children. He has since been buried according to Islamic rites.
