NBBF Approves 2026 Programmes, Pledges support for national teams international engagements
The board of Nigeria Basketball Federation ( NBBF,) has approved it’s programmes for 2026 calendar year, even as pledges support for D’Tigress and other national teams in their international engagements.
This was part of the communique issued shortly after it’s meeting held Sunday, March 1 at the Lagos Boat Club, Ikoyi, Lagos and presided over by the President Engr. Musa Kida.
According to the communique, the board, deliberated extensively on Nigeria’s participation in the forthcoming FIBA Women’s World Cup Qualifiers scheduled for 11th–17th March 2026 in Lyon, France and as part of ensuring that
Nigeria maintains it’s dominant standing in African women’s basketball and strengthen its global competivenes, reaffirmed its full commitment to ensuring seamless participation of D’Tigress at the qualifiers, including logistics, preparation, welfare, and competitive readiness.
The communique further stated that the board reviewed and approved preparations for the Federation’s major 2026 international engagements, including; the WNBA preparation tour and strategic exhibition engagements, FIBA World Cup Qualifier Windows 3 and 4 (Men’s), additional continental and international competitions within the approved calendar, and
reiterating its commitment to structured planning, financial discipline, and high-performance standards across all national teams.
Also, the board after extensive deliberation, formally approved the 2026 Budget, covering;
National team programs (Men, Women, Youth), international
competition participation, domestic league operations, grassroots and development programs and administrative
and governance operations even as it emphasized prudent financial management in alignment with the Federation’s constitutional mandate under Article 5 (Mission and Role).
On sponsorship and commercial development, it
reviewed ongoing commercial efforts and granted formal approval for sponsorship and partnership engagements currently under negotiation and structuring.
In furtherance of the Federation’s commercial growth strategy, the Board approved the engagement of Pamodzi Sports Consulting, a leading international sports consultancy firm, to support sponsorship acquisition, commercial strategy, and structured partnership development and reaffirmed that commercial expansion remains a strategic priority to ensure sustainability, player welfare, and long-term institutional growth.
The board unanimously resolved to Provide full institutional backing for all approved 2026 activities, support D’Tigress and other national teams in their international engagements,
strengthen sponsorship and commercial partnerships as well as maintain governance stability and compliance with the NBBF Constitution.
The board used the occasion to commend President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his sustained support of basketball and sports development in Nigeria as well as acknowledged the strategic backing of the leadership of the National Sports Commission, particularly the Chairman and the Director-General, for their continued collaboration with the Federation.
Finally, the meeting concluded with a renewed commitment to unity, institutional stability, and the continued advancement of Nigerian basketball.
