By Akeem Busari

The maiden edition of Kanu International Football Academy (KIFA) kicks off today at the Remo Stars stadium, Ikenne, Ogun State, with 8 teams representing the zones in KIFA.

The competition which would be played in league format of four teams each in two groups, is throwing up exciting and  innovating football rules.
According to the national coordinator of KIFA, Razak Usman, the technical department of KIFA have decided to change the narratives as it concerns the technique and tactical development of the average Nigerian footballer.
” We have decided to come up with the idea of awarding two goals for every free kick scored from outside the eighteen yard box.
” There is a glaring dearth of set pieces experts in recent times in Nigerian football. And giving two goals for free kicks scored would definitely encourage our players to become more proficient, also improve their ratings,” Usman stated.
With over 90 accredited and certified centres across Nigeria, 8 teams namely, Lagos, Kaduna, South-West, South-East, South-South, North-Central, North-west and North-East, would be slugging it out in the four-day football fiesta, July 12-16, 2021.
