NDSF: Governor Eno commends NDDC, promises cash rewards for state medalists

Akwa Ibom State Governor Pastor Umo Bassey Eno, has commended the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) for it’s decision to organize the forthcoming Niger Delta Sports Festival.

He made the statement when he paid an unscheduled visit to the athletes’ camp at the Dakkada Skills Acquisition Centre (DASAC), Ikot Ada Idem, in Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area even as he charged the state athletes to rise to the occasion and win laurels for the state

According to him, the festival will promote sports tourism in the region as well as identify talents for national and international competitions.

“This is a significant opportunity provided by the NDDC, and I encourage all of you to take it seriously. From this event, we could discover talents for higher competitions”, he stressed.

The Governor also used the visit to promise the state athletes cash rewards for those who made podium finish at the Games.

“We will continue to give priority to sports development and as the host state of the NDSF, our aim is to top the medal table.

“We cannot host this event without winning medals. For each Gold, Silver, or Bronze medal, there will be a reward. I will meet with you immediately after the games to congratulate and reward the winners,” he said.

Over 300 athletes will represent Akwa Ibom in 17 sports during the Niger Delta Games, which will take place from April 1 to 9 at various locations across the state.
