New National Champions Emerge At De Lads Boxing Show

President of De Lads Boxing Promotions Alhaji Wasiu Alabi Waheed says there’s no going back in his plans to take professional boxing to higher pedestal with an assurance that his outfit is out to produce more champions for the country in few years time.

He stated this, during the Season 11 of his promotion tagged ‘Battle of Ages’ No Surrender, held on Easter Sunday at the Gymnasium Hall of the National Institute For Sports, National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos

According to him he’s satisfied with the successes recorded since he delved into boxing promotion, promising that he’ll continue to do his best towards ensuring that Nigeria produce world beaters in the sport.

” I’m happy with what my organisation has achieved from the Season one of the championship till the present time which has continued to receive commendation from boxing stake holders and fans

“There’s no going back on our efforts
of giving these boxers opportunity to excel and we’ll continue to work closely with the Nigeria Boxing Board of Control ( NBB of C) to ensure that our boxers are not fight rusty but in top shape all the time.

Alhaji Waheed also explained that his decision to organise amateur fights alongside professional bouts is part of his efforts in complementing government efforts at discovering talents at the grassroots.

” It’s a thing of joy that starting from our first edition, we have not only changed the narratives of profession boxing but have also extended it to the grassroots level.

” As you can see, we want to develop all aspects of the country’s boxing and that’s why we always hold amateur boxing alongside professional bouts because we want to help government catch them young at the grassroots

Alhaji Waheed while commending their sponsores for partnering with them, believes that with more corporate support, his organization will take boxing to higher pedestal.

“I want to use this opportunity to appeal for more corporate support to enable us develop the country’s boxing at all levels. With such support, Nigeria will rule the world of boxing because we have the talents that can make it happen”, he concluded

In his remarks, Secretary General of Nigeria Boxing Board of Control (NBB of C), Remi Aboderin who also doubles as President of West African Boxing Union ( WABU ) noted that the enabling environment created by the board has encouraged more promoters to come on board; saying that the boxing board will continue to do the needful in moving the sports forward.

Meanwhile at the end of the action filled fights, two new national champions were crowned at the Easter boxing show

Fighting in the Featherweight category, plans of Ojo Arabambi to be crowned national champion after two unsuccessful attempts suffered another setback as he lost by unanimous decision to new champion, Taofeek Faruq while Yusuf Ogunbunmi recorded a 2-1 split decision victory over Isaac Chukwudi in a closely contested fight to be crowned the new national Light Welterweight champion.

In the other fights of the night Soldier boy, Hassan Tiamiyu wasted no time in stopping Kazeem Lawal in the second round of their eight rounds National Super Welterweight challenge fight with Taiwo Olowu recording a unanimous decision victory over Oluwatoyin Omotosho in another Super Welterweight challenge contest.

Also, Oluwatosin Adeshina fighting in the bantamweight class, recorded a majority decision victory over Ezekiel Seun just as Shittu Afolabi recorded a 4th round technical knockout against former National and West African Boxing Union champion, Nurudeen Salahu in their National Super Flyweight challenge contest

High point of the night was the observation of a minute silence in honour of former National and West African Light heavyweight champion, Segun Olanrewaju A K.A Success who died in the ring on March, 23, 2025 in Ghana
