NPFL Match Day 5 : Put Nasarawa loss behind you, Hon Porri Urges Bayelsa Utd

Chairman of Bayelsa State House of Assembly Committee on Sports and Youth Development , Hon. Barr.Tare Porri has urged Bayelsa Utd not to be discouraged by their slim 1-2 loss to Nasarawa United but to see it as a wake-up call to perform better in their subsequent matches in the country’s top flight football.

In a nail-biting tie, Nasarawa Utd came from behind to beat their hosts 2-1 in Match Day 5 of the 2025/26 Nigeria Premier Football League campaign decided at the Samson Siasia Stadium, Yenagoa, on Sunday evening.

Jawad Mustapha headed the home side into the lead in the 36th minute before Ekeson Okorie drew the Solid Miners on level terms at the nick of halftime.

However, it was Nasarawa United who got the winner in the 89th minute through substitute, Victor Onovuke.

Speaking on the match, Hon. Porri, who is the member representing Ekeremor Constituency 1 in the state House of Assembly attributed the loss to lack of concentration but expressed optimism that the Harmony boys will bounce back stronger in their subsequent games.

” I had expected the Harmony boys to pick the maximum points at Yenagoa because they played well but lack of concentration made the visitors run away with victory. My advice is that they should put the loss behind them and forge ahead because in football such things can happen.

Hon. Porri believes that Bayelsa Utd has what it takes to challenge for the NPFL title noting that the state government will always provide the necessary support for the team to succeed.

” I believe that Bayelsa Utd is strong enough to challenge for the league title and our sports loving governor is ever ready to provide the necessary finance and logistics to make the team succeed and we as law makers will always extend our support to the team to enable it excel.
