The National Chairman of the Nigeria Football Supporters Club (NFSC), Rev. (Amb.) Samuel Ikpea, has etched his name in history after being honoured with a prestigious award at the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) Diamond Jubilee Anniversary celebration.
Ikpea was conferred with the SWAN Distinguished Service Award (SDSA) at the VIP lounge of the MKO Abiola Stadium, Abuja on Friday emerging as the only personality from the football supporters’ fraternity to make the exclusive honours list that was released by SWAN@60.
The recognition underscores his dynamic leadership, consistent support for Nigerian football, and active involvement in talent development and fan engagement across national teams.
Since joining the Nigeria Football Supporters Club in 1990, Ikpea has held various leadership positions including 2nd Assistant National Secretary, National Secretary and Secretary-General, before rising to become the National Chairman.
His vision has continued to shape the Supporters Club into a formidable pillar behind Nigerian football.
Beyond his contributions to fan mobilisation, Ikpea is also the Nigerian Ambassador for Santos FC of Brazil and the President of Africano Nigeria; a Brazilian-affiliated football development initiative that identifies and nurtures promising young talents across the country.
A multiple award recipient within the sports ecosystem, this recognition marks his first national honour from the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria.
The NFSC boss expressed deep appreciation to SWAN, dedicating the award to the Super Eagles of Nigeria, while expressing confidence in the team’s prospects ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
“This award is a sign of victory,” he said. “I dedicate the breakthrough that comes with it to the Super Eagles, as we look forward to cheering them on at the 2026 World Cup.”
With this milestone, Ikpea reinforces his status as one of the most influential figures in Nigerian football support culture, as he continues to rally fans and inspire the next generation of football talents nationwide
