James Eteng 5th JAMSC Open category winner receives a from NSF Technical Director Curtis John in Lagos
James Eteng of the Nigeria Police Scrabble has won the Opens category of the 5th Janet Adowei Scrabble Championship which was concluded in Lagos over the weekend.
Eteng recorded a total of 12 wins and 6 defeats with a cumulative points of +286 to pick the title at the multi-level category championship which also featured the current African champion Timilehin Doko.
His tally took him beyond the reach of second placed Isidore Emoavwoyan’s 11 wins and +728 cumulative points after 18 round of games.
Awonusi Peter finished third with 10 wins and 8 defeats in the tightly contested competition.
Despite the presence of elite players, the Police Officer took charge of proceedings as he navigated his way to the top of his category.
Eteng’s victory has triggered a wave of excitement among the Police Scrabble team which has remained consistent with it’s desire to compete with the best in Nigeria and Africa.
Chairman of the Police Scrabble team CSP Babafemi Okunowo has commended Eteng and other members of the team for the success at the 5th JAMSC.
It would be recalled that Dickson Iyelih, another member of the team won the Opens category of the Lekki Scrabble Classics last year.
