Nigeria Pro- Wrestling Federation Shifts Int’l Championship/Power Mike Memorial Event To November 30
The Nigeria Professional Wrestling Federation (NPWF) has officially announced the rescheduling of the much-anticipated International Wrestling Championship and Power Mike Memorial Tournament to November 30th, 2025, at Akwa Township Stadium, Anambra State due to unforeseen venue challenges.
Disclosing this during a press briefing held in Awka on October 18, 2025, the National President of NPWF, High Chief John O. Uche, expressed regret over the second shift in date, explaining that the change became necessary after it was discovered that The Lord’s Chosen Charismatic Revival Ministry had already booked Alex Ekwueme Square, Awka, months ahead for a separate event.
Chief Uche disclosed that the oversight occurred because the officer assigned to secure the venue failed to verify the booking status properly.
“It’s indeed unfortunate, but we have taken immediate corrective measures. We sincerely apologize to our fans, wrestlers, partners, and sponsors for any inconvenience this may have caused,” he said.
The NPWF President also used the opportunity to shed light on ongoing challenges facing the Federation, including poor media representation, weak management structures, and limited sponsorship.
He emphasized the urgent need for capable and enlightened professionals in media, promotions, and administrative sectors to strengthen the Federation’s visibility and revenue base.
“The challenges we face today didn’t start today,” Chief Uche noted. “They go back to the era of Power Mike, when most wrestlers were not literate enough to manage the Federation’s affairs effectively. But we are now taking deliberate steps to change that narrative.”
He assured that structural reforms are now in motion to reposition Nigerian professional wrestling for global recognition, with media partnerships and sponsorship opportunities now being explored to revive the sport’s golden age.
The press briefing was attended by key officials including the NPWF South-East and Southern Nigeria Coordinator, Mr. Fidelis Kene Chiekezie, renowned wrestler Misterio 619, and other notable members of the wrestling community.
Later that day, the NPWF National President also met with Engr. Chinedu Akata, the Anambra State Chapter Chairman, in Onitsha, alongside MC Odua, to discuss strategic plans for the Federation’s progress.
