Nigeria’s world Cup qualification in jeopardy

The chances of Nigeria qualifying for the 2026 World Cup was further dimmed on Tuesday when the Warriors of Zimbabwe forced the Super Eagles to a 1-1 draw in Uyo.
The Coach Eric Chelle tutored side who brightened the hope of the country’s qualification with a 2-0 victory over Rwanda at the Amahoro Stadium, Kigali, last Friday, found the Zimbabweans who are in bottom of Group C, a hard nut to crack.
The Warriors who prior to the game promised the Nigerians not to expect an easy game lived up to expectation as they ensured the Eagles never had their way as the game ended goalless in the first half.
It was not untill the 73rd minute that Victor Osimhen headed home Ola Aina’s cross to break the deadlock.
However, it was heartbreak for Nigeria as Tawanda Chirewa tip-toes his way into the box in the 90th minute to put the ball under Nwabali for the equaliser to send the Southern Africans into wide jubilation.
In the other Group C matches, South Africa defeated Benin Republic 2-0 while Rwanda and Lesotho played out a 1-1 draw.
With this result, South Africa maintained their leadership position of the group with 13 points, followed by Rwanda with 8 points while Benin Republic is on third position with the same points as Rwanda but with lower goal aggregate.
Nigeria is occupying the forth position with 7 points while Lesotho is on fifth position with 6 points while Zimbabwe is at the bottom with 4 points
