Expect an exciting WBC Muay Thai national title fight- Nweke
As the WBC Muay Thai Nigeria Federation prepares to stage it’s first national title fight in the country, President of the Federation, Samuel Nweke said the Indoor Sports Hall of the National Stadium Surulere Lagos venue of the fight will be on fire when the fight holds on Saturday, July, 20, 2024.
Muay Thai, often referred to as the ‘King of the ring’ is a martial arts sports with it’s origin in Thailand and it involves the use of punches, knee, elbow and kicking.
Speaking in a world press conference attended by the African President of the sports, Hadj Battahar to herald the title fight, Nweke explained that there will be seven bouts comprising of four amateur fights while the main bout will be a title fight in the 57 kg between two of the best Nigerian fighters; Sadiq Mohammed A.K.A Target and Police Inspector, Oyeniyi Akeem A.K.A Osaka.
The Federation boss who himself was a former fighter, explained that the presence of the continental body’s President who donated medals for the fights will serve as a big boost in their plans to popularize the sports further in the country which is presently practiced in Lagos, Anambra, Kwara and kebbi States.
” I’m really happy that we’re hosting this national title fight for the first time in the country and I hope it will help us in the grassroots development of the game
” The presence of the African body’s President is also a big boost to us and we hope to leverage on it to take the game of Muay Thai to many States of the Federation.
Nweke who advocated introducing the sports to the country’s military and paramilitary forces as it will go a long way in helping their physical and mental alertness, promised that the title fight is the beginning of better things to expect from the Federation.
In his remarks, President of the African body, Hadj Battahar who described Nigeria as a great country while commending the Federation for it’s good work towards moving the game forward in the country urged the board members to ensure that the sports is introduced in all the 36 states of the country
Hadj who stated that passion for the sports made him embrace it declared that the future is very bright for Nigeria in Muay Thai.
Meanwhile, the two title contenders, have all promised to give their best on Saturday.
Speaking on his preparedness, Sadiq Mohammed who has represented the country in many championships such as the 1st African Muay Thai championship in Casablanca Morocco in 2017 as well as in Ghana, Cote d’Ivoire and France while commending the President of the Federation for his mentorship and support declared that nothing short of victory will satisfy him.
” I must have to commend the President of Muay Thai Federation, Samuel Nweke for being there for me and making me what 1’m today in the sports.
” I have been to many National Sports Festivals represented as well as represented the country in many international competitions and so, I believe I have the experience to beat my opponent come Saturday “, he declared
Replying him, Fighting Police man, Oyeniyi Akeem noted that although his opponent is a very good fighter, he will not give anything to chance against him.
According to the soft spoken Akeem, both of them have met four times in the past with each of them winning two fights apiece but he’s confident of emerging victorious.
