NPFL Match Day 8 : Kano Pillars Condemn Stadium Violence, Announce 10-Year Ban for Troublemakers
Kano Pillars Football Club have strongly condemned the violent conduct of a section of their supporters following Sunday’s Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Matchday 8 encounter against Shooting Stars, which ended 1-1 at the Sani Abacha Stadium, Kano.
In a statement issued by the club’s Media and Communications Directorate, Pillars described the perpetrators as “unruly individuals” who attempted to cause chaos immediately after the final whistle.
The club, however, commended the swift action of its stewards and security operatives who intervened promptly to restore order.
According to the statement, all players and officials of both teams, as well as match officials, left the stadium safely under security escort, with no injuries reported. The club further disclosed that several individuals involved in the disorder were arrested and handed over to law enforcement agencies for investigation and prosecution.
Kano Pillars pledged full cooperation with the authorities to ensure that those found guilty face the full weight of the law. In addition, the club announced internal sanctions, including a 10-season ban on all identified troublemakers from accessing the Sani Abacha Stadium.
“The management of Kano Pillars FC will impose strict sanctions by banning all identified troublemakers from accessing the Sani Abacha Stadium for the next 10 seasons,” the statement read.
“We remain committed to maintaining peace, discipline, and a conducive environment for football in line with NPFL and NFF regulations.”
The club also appealed to its passionate supporters to remain peaceful and serve as worthy ambassadors of Kano Pillars during future matches.
Sunday’s incident adds to a growing concern over fan violence in Nigerian football, with the league body expected to investigate the matter further.
