NRFF Assures On Continuous Coaches Training as T1 Program Ends in Abuja
The Nigeria Rugby Football Federation (NRFF) has reaffirmed its commitment to developing the game through continuous training of coaches and officials across the country.
Speaking at the closing ceremony of the Rugby Rising Play – T1 Rugby Coaches Training Course in Abuja, NRFF President Dr. Ademola Are described the program as a key step in expanding grassroots rugby and promoting gender inclusion in the sports.
“We are grateful to World Rugby for their continued support,” Are said. “This is our second program of this kind, and more coaches are now equipped with the knowledge to grow the game, especially among girls.
“The participation of eleven female coaches is encouraging and will have a ripple effect in boosting girl-child involvement in rugby.”
The Rugby Rising Play Supervisor, Wuraola Hussaini, praised the enthusiasm of participants and emphasized that the real work begins after the training.
“This is just the first phase,” she noted. “Each coach must now return to their state and begin implementing what they’ve learned. Our goal is to see each coach enlist 300 kids, especially girls, introduced to rugby through this program. I’ll be monitoring their progress closely, and my door remains open to guide them.”
At the close of the program, participants received Rugby Rising Play kits to aid their training sessions, underscoring NRFF’s dedication to providing practical tools and sustained technical support.
The Rugby Rising Play initiative continues to stand as a flagship effort in advancing female participation in rugby, fostering leadership, and nurturing young talents poised to represent Nigeria on continental and global stages.
