NRFF Hosts Rugby Coaching & Medical Course in Abeokuta

. 3rd Tunde Delu Abeokuta Rugby 7s Holds Simultaneously

The Nigeria Rugby Football Federation (NRFF) has intensified efforts to grow the game at the grassroots level with the organisation of a rugby coaching and medical course in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

The three-day programme, in collaboration with the Ogun State Government, is scheduled to run from April 23 to 25, 2026, at the MKO Abiola Sports Arena.

It is aimed at developing aspiring coaches and medical personnel, while making rugby more accessible to young people across the country.

Participants are expected to have completed basic World Rugby training modules, including Rugby Ready, T1 Rugby (non-contact), as well as introductory courses in coaching and player welfare/medical care. The programme is designed to equip attendees with essential knowledge on safety, game fundamentals, and athlete management.

Organisers say the initiative is part of a broader strategy to strengthen the foundation of rugby in Nigeria by building capacity at the grassroots level and encouraging wider participation.

The training will also coincide with the 3rd edition of the Abeokuta Rugby 7s Tournament, following an exciting previous edition where Cowrie RFC edged Racing RFC of Lagos 26–21 to emerge champions.
