NRFF Partners Ekiti State to Host Rugby Clinic, Strengthen Grassroots Development

The Nigeria Rugby Football Federation (NRFF), in its drive to broaden the reach of the game across the country, has partnered with the Ekiti State Sports Commission to host a transformative Rugby Clinic aimed at boosting grassroots development in the region.

The program was led by World Rugby certified Educator and Nigeria Rugby Development Officer, Wuraola Hussain, and brought together key stakeholders committed to advancing youth sports in the state.

The clinic recorded strong participation from game teachers and primary and secondary school game prefects eager to deepen their knowledge of the sport.

Participants received both practical and theoretical training on rugby fundamentals, safety principles, game management, and inclusive coaching techniques suitable for school environments.

NRFF President, Dr. Ademola Are, commended the Ekiti State Sports Commission for hosting a program of such significance, noting its importance to the long-term growth of rugby in the state.

Educator Hussain emphasized the need to build a strong foundation for rugby in schools, highlighting that empowering teachers and student leaders is essential for sustainable growth.

She noted that the clinic aligns with a nationwide effort to make rugby accessible, safe, and development-focused for young athletes.

Acting General Manager of the Ekiti State Sports Commission, Lawrence Ogundele Mayowa, emphasized the state government’s commitment to creating an enabling environment for youth to thrive.

He noted that this objective is at the heart of organizing the program, adding that more sports will benefit from such initiatives in the long run.

The Ekiti Rugby Clinic stands as a major milestone in the NRFF’s mission to nurture future talent, promote discipline, and foster positive youth engagement through rugby.
