Former Green Eagles midfielder Clement Temile has revealed that his late teammate Henry Nwosu was not given any treatment for the five days period he spent at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) before he died.
The mercurial midfielder’s passing was announced by former captain Segun Odegbami on Saturday.
Nwosu who was a member of the 1980 Nations Cup winning team was pronounced dead at 4 am after he was taken and admitted to the hospital on Wednesday due to illness.
His death has elicited reactions from many who received the news with shock.
Temile a strong advocate for a unified Players Union and his teammate at the 1984 Africa Cup of Nations, made a disturbing revelation that the 62 year-old was not given the medical attention he required from the state’s facility.
“It was a very sad news, may his soul rest in perfect peace. When I got the message from Big Seg (Segun Odegbami) I was very shocked. This is the time the Players Union must do something. They said he spent five days in the hospital at Ikeja, they did not even respond to him. They did not give him any treatment before he passed on. I think I’m working on the Players Union as the Vice-President. The President Tijani Babangida is not in the country so, I’m trying to bring us together again as a strong group, a Players Union which will care for the future of those that have played for Nigeria. We are going to get to President Bola Tinubu, we the ex-players are really suffering, we need the support of the federal government also.”
“Henry Nwosu is a big name. Vey big name. I respect his name a lot because I met him in the national camp. We are going to lose a lot! We are not taking care of our own legends. We have a lot to deliver. Like myself personally, I have a UEFA A License Professional from the U.K. and they will not think and say Clement Temile you have a UEFA Pro, come and take one team or supervise a club, they just left us by the side. We have to hustle for ourselves. We have to thank Dr. Felix Owolabi and Segun Odegbami who have been really make things happen for us we ex-international.
He called on all ex-internationals to rally round one another and work towards a united players union where their welfare would be well taken care of.
