NYG: Amidst protest, Team Nassarawa’s George Adam awarded bronze medal
..as Chinenye Agbo increases medal haul

Following protest by ‘Team Nasarawa’ against Borno State for fraudulently featuring an athlete, Henry Ossai, in the Judo 40kg Boys’ Category at the ongoing National Youth Games in Asaba, Delta State, organizers of the competition have stripped the petitioned athlete of the bronze medal he won at the event and handed same to Nasarawa’s George Adams, whom the accused athlete had truncated his progress to the semi-finals stage.
The purported athlete had earlier been disqualified due to irregularities in his inclusion in the chart, with further investigation showing that ‘Team Borno’ never registered the said athlete nor the sport in entirety at the Games.
In Karate, Chinenye Agbo, settled for a bronze medal after losing her semi-final fight against Ehiozibue Joshua of Delta State in the +47kg Girls’ Category.
She had earlier defeated her Abia and Adamawa states’ opponents enroute to the semi-finals.
The development therefore brings to four, the total number of medals won by ‘Team Nasarawa’ at the Games which will climax on Saturday, 30th September, 2023.
The team presently have one silver(in Taekwondo) and three bronze medals (in Golf, Judo and Karate) respectively, with more medal hopes in the remaining games.
