Obazu community in Lagos honours Deacon Clarke
Members of Obazu welfare Town Union of Imo State, resident in Lagos, Sunday, December, 8, 2024, rolled out the drums to celebrate one of their own, Deacon Louis James Clarke who was given a special Merit Award for his numerous contributions in the development of their community.
The event which formed part of activities marking the end of year celebration of the community was held at National Population Commission premises, Surulere, Lagos and attracted eminent personalities from within and outside the community who took turns to eulogize the awardee for his numerous community service to his people.
In his welcome address, Chairman of Obazu Welfare Town Union, Lagos, Ugochukwu Ihemeje explained that the union decided to honour some of their members in recognition of the roles they’ve played to move the association forward just as he stated that those chosen as grand patrons, patrons and awardees were based on merit even as he charged them to see their recognition as a call for more service to the community.
“It’s a thing of joy that 15 months into my administration, we’re witnessing the investiture of grand patrons, patrons as well as giving merit awards to some of our deserving members.
” Those that we’re celebrating today were carefully selected based on their service to our community and our association is proud of them and look forward to them doing more philanthropic work for Obazu town”, he stressed.
Receiving the award, Clark expressed his deep appreciation to the union for finding him worthy to be honoured, pledging that the award will spur him to do more for his kinsmen.
” I’m very excited about the award because it was not given to me based on politics but on what one has done for his people and I must commend the entire Obazu Welfare Town Union for finding me worthy for this award.
Deacon Clarke, a member of Police Public Relations Committee who has received many awards in the past, described the present one as the best among all his awards, noting that he’s going to cherish it more.
” You’re aware that I have received many awards in the past but I will cherish this one more because it’s coming from my own people. This award which is in recognition of my selfless service to my people will spur me do more”, he stated
