Former national team Captain, Mathematical Segun Odegbami MON has expressed sorrow at the death of his bosom friend and team mate, Christian Chukwu MFR

Christian Chukwu popularly known as Chairman during his playing days, died Saturday morning after a brief illness at the age of 74.

According to Odegbami the death of the one time Super Eagles and Harambe Stars of Kenya handler who captained the Green Eagles when Nigeria won her first Nations Cup in 1980 came to him as a very big shock, noting that he’s yet to recover from the sad news since it was broken to him by former number one goalkeeper, Emmanuel Okala MON.

“This is a sad day for me. When Okala broke the news to me, I reflected on what we did together and remembered how the late Chukwu captained us to win the Nations Cup in 1980.

” I also remembered the cordial relationship that existed between us from our playing days to his last moment on earth. I’m aware he has been sick for sometime but I didn’t expect him to die at this time and I
pray that his gentle soul will rest in Perfect Peace”, said Odegbami
