The President of Nigeria boxing Federation Lt. Gen. Kenneth Minimah (Rtd) has extolled the recently held Yucateco Boxing Lifetime Achievements Merit Awards in Lagos.
Minimah who was represented at the event held at Jevinik Place in Ikeja GRA on Friday 19th April, said the boxing award has set a new height for the sports in Nigeria.
In his words: ” I must commend the CEO of Yucateco Boxing Promotions my good friend, Mr. Omonlei Yakubu Imadu for this noble initiative, awards of this kind are truly necessary to encourage the next generation of boxers”.
“I am happy this is happening under my watch as President of the Nigeria Boxing Federation, Mr. Imadu can always count on my support because we need more of such events to put Nigerian boxing on the global map once again”.
Minimah who was also an Awardee on the night, said he feels very honored that his immense contributions to the development of boxing in the country is being recognized.
” This is one award I’m very happy to receive because it came from a very reputable body like Yucateco, I truly cherish it because it’s also a motivation to do even better in growing the sports in Nigeria”.
Other Awardees includes; late Hogan Bassy, the first Nigerian to win a world title, former national middleweight champion Isaac Ikhouria, Commonwealth Games gold medalists Sabo Mohammed and current Nigeria National boxing coach Anthony Konyegwachie.
Also on the lists are 2011 All African Games bronze medalist, Lawal Lukmon Olaiwola, Muyili Ojo, Nigerian boxing Umpire with the most appearances at international games, women boxing pioneer Edith Agu Ogoke, former National boxing coach Joseph Mensah, Ogun state boxing pioneer Ajani Aremu, boxing umpire Abdullahi Masha, coach Samson Aransiola, and one of Nigeria’s most decorated boxing umpire Adesanya Olusegun Ayodele.
Highlight of the award nite was presentation of a brand new car to the Most Valuable Boxer of Season 1 of YUCATECO Boxing League, Abdulramon Abdulwahab.
