Olajide, Bouyer win Ikoyi Club Easter Holiday tennis tourney
The annual Ikoyi Club Easter Holiday Tennis Clinic/Tournament came to an end weekend with interesting final day activities at the tennis courts of the elite club.
After four days of intensive coaching and mentorship, the youngsters engaged one another in the tournament on Saturday with interesting results posted across the categories.
In the Girls U-16 finals, Oluwatishe Olajide defeated Ayodele Folusayo 6/0 in a rather one sided encounter while the reverse was the case in the Boys U-16 final as Maxime Bouyer beat Oluwase Odebode 7/5 in a very tight match that kept spectators at the edge of their seats throughout the encounter.
The Boys U-13 cadre saw Mayowa Ogunoiki beating Prabrshi Vaswani 4/2 while in the Boys U- 10 finals, Ademide Sijuwade defeated Oyekan Tijani 4/1.
Games Captain of the Ikoyi Club Tennis section, Shegun Olajide, said he was happy that the tournament and the clinic was a step up to the event staged last year.
“This year’s tennis clinic and tournament stood out compared to previous years in many areas, not just because of the innovations and the quality of organization, but also in terms of attendance (over 100 children), competitiveness, and the overall satisfaction of both parents, the children, and the sponsors was unprecedented.
“As the organisers and host, we are particularly proud of the level of commitment, enthusiasm, competitiveness, and friendships forged between the children and also their parents.
“It was remarkable to see how the little shy, quiet children who kept mostly to themselves on day one, were boasting and bragging about their tennis forehand abilities to their new friends. Their confidence grew from the clinic into the tournament proper.
“On behalf of the Ikoyi Club 1938 Tennis Section, I want to express my sincere gratitude to the Tennis Section Chairman, Victor Onyenkpa, our Sponsor of many years, Leadway Assurance, the Lady Tennis Captain, Nora Azubuike, Exco Member in-charge of Children programs, Wemimo Ogunsanya, the parents, the children, the coaches, the media, the photographers, the administrative staff, and everyone who made this possible for our children.”
