AFCON 2024: With the players we have, Eagles should conquer Africa again in CIV -Sajo

By George Aluo

Former chief executive officer of the Nigeria National League (NNL) Barrister Sajo Mohammed has declared that the Eagles have the quality to rule Africa again at next year’s AFCON in Côte d’Ivoire.

Sajo who spoke on an AIT television sports show yesterday said it is squarely up to the players to come home and prove their mettle even as he insisted that the team’s gaffer Jose Peseiro should not be the major issue.

In Sajo’s words…”The onus to me lies more on the players to prove their mettle. A team that has Osimhen, Chukwueze, Lukeman name it should not be struggling. We have got the players, we see them every day on television doing it for their clubs. They need to prove their mettle by winning the AFCON in Côte d’Ivoire. Even if we parade a coach that is only an average coach, the Eagles should based on the quality of our players do well at the Nations Cup.”

The Adamawa born football buff charged Super Eagles players to always play with patriotic zeal whenever they are lacing boots for the country.

It would be noted that the nation’s soccer governing body NFF had thrown Peseiro’s contract renewal issue to the fans charging them to vote on whether the coach’s contract should be renewed or not.

Many Nigerians have not been impressed with the performance of Eagles under the Portuguese gaffer. He (Peseiro) has however qualified the Eagles for the Nations Cup with a game in hand.
