Osun State to host pro wrestling championship in December

President of Nigerian Professional Wrestling Federation (NPWF) Chief John Uche, has revealed that plans are underway to host a world wrestling championship in Oshogbo, the Osun State Capital to immortalize former world light heavyweight wrestling champion, Mike Bamidele..
He noted that the championship became necessary inorder to celebrate and honour the late wrestling giant as well as commemorate the 42nd year anniversary of the Nigerian Pro Wrestling Federation which would have taken place in September this year but was moved forward because of logistics reasons
In a letter sent to the Executive Governor of Osun State His Excellency Senator Ademola Adeleke seeking his approval to host the championship scheduled to take place on Saturday 9th December at the Oshogbo Township Stadium, he implored the Governor to approve the hosting right knowing fully well that it will be used to honour one of the sons of the state who brought honour to the country .
The letter reads ” Nigerian Professional Wrestling Federation is appealing to your Excellency to approve and be our Chief Host at the international Wrestling championship/ 42nd year anniversary celebration/ Mike Bamidele National Security, Peace and Unity Wrestling Championship Trophy created to immortalize a great wrestler of appreciable repute from Ipetu-Ijesa in Ori Ade Local Government area of Osun State.
“The trophy would be presented to our amiable Governor for his blessing” chief Uche explained.
According to the wrestling boss, the championship will be used to showcase talents such as Mightyman the NPWF heavyweight champion and title holder, Mr. Sharpman and Aliking the current holder of the peace trophy.
There will also be a national ladies title fight between Stylish ‘’J’’ of Anambra State and Triple ‘’J’’ of Jos, Plateau State.
“The event will feature three title fights and four supporting bouts which will be explosive with scintillating pro wrestling display’’ he noted
Chief Uche while advising the wrestlers to intensify their training ahead of the championship commended them for their consistency and doggedness over the years despite the numerous challenges besetting the growth of professional wrestling in Nigeria just as he posited that steps are being taken to normalize the pending challenges.
