Olu of Mushin Tug- of- War championship holds June 11
As part of efforts to honour the Olu of Mushin, a suburb of Lagos, His Royal Majesty Oba Fatai Ayinla Aileru 11, the Tug- of- War Federation of Nigeria has concluded arrangement to organize the maiden Olu of Mushin Tug- of War championship slated to hold June, 11, 2022 at the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos.
Disclosing this to the media, President of the Federation Isaac Osaikhiwu Isaac said the competition apart from honouring the Monarch for his giant strides in maintaining peace and harmonious relationship in the kingdom is also planned to take the youths of the town out of the streets and make them useful citizens of the country.
The championship according to him, will involve novelty tournament for some selected Boys and Girls secondary schools in the community while the competition proper will be between teams from the Army, Navy, Nigerian Police, Immigration service and some private clubs just as he promised that it will also serve as avenue to pick athletes that will represent the country at the forthcoming African International Tug- of- War championship slated for Windhoek, Namibia in July this year.
“This championship is being put together to honour His Royal Majesty who is well respected and have been a champion of peace amongst his subjects in the many years he has been on the throne. We also plan to make it an annual event and also use it to attract youths in Mushin to the unique sports which preaches endurance, discipline and hard work.
Isaac who is also the MD/CEO of O & I Contact Limited while explaining that there will be trophies, cash awards and certificate of participation commended the Oba in council for their support even as he appealed to corporate organizations to partner with the Federation to make the event a memorable one
In his response, Oba Aiyeru 11 who was represented by High Chief Akibu Adio Oseni Onileye expressed happiness to the Federation for the honour being done the Monarch and admonished the youths of the community to embrace the sports because of the numerous benefits they will get from it.
