Pro Wrestling inauguration in Benin Republic will change the face of the game in Africa – Olukoya
Secretary General of Pro- Wrestling Africa ( PWA), Olusesan Olukoya said that the recent inauguration of professional wrestling in Benin Republic will serve as a game changer for the sports in the continent
According to him, inaugurating the sports in the West African country bordered by Togo to the West, Nigeria to the East, Burkina Faso to the North-West, and Niger to the North-East is indeed a way forward for the continent considering the few nations in Africa practicing modern day professional wrestling.
Pro -Wrestling Africa (PWA), a body established with the vision of creating a Mecca of exciting world class modern day professional wrestling within Africa, the second largest continent in area and in population after Asia on Saturday September, 7, 2024 inaugurated the sports in the country as part of their efforts to spread wrestling gospel to many African countries and Olukoya believes that it will have a big impact in further spreading wrestling gospel in not only other West African countries but the entire continent.
” We at PWA are excited that professional wrestling is gradually taking a foothold in West Africa like in other sub- regions in the continent and it’s a thing of joy that after successfully establishing the sports in Togo we moved to Benin Republic and hopefully from there, our train will move to other West African countries.
” You know that it takes a lot of planning, time, funds and resources to set up a body in another country but our major concern now, is the way forward and having many nations in Africa practice professional wrestling.
” So, establishing wrestling Federations in many African nations and seeing to it that they function is a task that must be accomplished by our organization”, he stressed.
Meanwhile the inauguration at Benin Republic was a huge success and was preceded by an election of new Executive Officers to pilot the affairs of the sports in the country.
After the keenly contested election, Oke Ezechiel was elected the President while Wanvoegbe Germain and Akouete Robert emerged as the 1st and 2nd Vice Presidents just as Ali
Orou, Noudohouenou Franck and Sessou Marcel were elected the 3rd, 4th and 5th Vice Presidents respectively.
The post of General Secretary went to Bisi Mohinou, Chitou Waliou won the post of Deputy General Secretary, Hounvio January became General Treasurer with Aholou Sidouane as his Deputy.
Performing the inauguration, scribe of PWA Olusesan Olukoya while expressing joy that the country has joined the league of professional wrestling in the world charged the newly elected officers to ensure they take the sports to all the nook and crannies of the country noting that their youths will benefit immensely from the game.
” It’s a thing of joy that Benin Republic has today joined the league of countries that practices professional wrestling and I want to assure you that youths of this country will benefit immensely from this sports that is capable of creating employment opportunities for them.
” But it’s equally important that I charge you as the newly elected officers that will pilot the affairs of this all important sports from infancy to do the needful and take the game to all the nooks and crannies of your country”, he stated
In his remarks, the newly elected President, commended PWA for bringing the sports to their country but appealed to it to be of great assistance to the baby Federation to enable it excel.
