Professor Oladipo Emerges Sports Science President

A new era has emerged at the Nigeria Association of Sports Science and Medicine following the election of new Executive led by Professor I . O Oladipo to pilot the affairs of the body.
At the Nigeria Association of Sports Science and Medicine Conference held at the Premier University in Ibadan, Professor Oladipo was elected beating his rival Professor Ochuko Nabofa.
Prof Dominic Leah Oluwafunmilola emerged unopposed as Vice President, Dr Boluwaji G. Jaiyesimi was elected as General Secretary, while Mr.Taiwo Abdulkarim is the Assistant General Secretary.
Others elected to direct the affairs of the body are Prof. M.H Darma who emerged unopposed as Treasurer , while Dr Victor Ogunleye will serve as the image maker of the professional body.
The election was part of activities for the 2025 Conference themed: Shaping Humans and Society through Science and Medicine of Sports.
Professor Oladipo said he would run an all inclusive leadership which will place the Association in the pinnacle of professional bodies.
Delivering the keynote paper, Provost College of Health Sciences, Delta State University, Abraka Professor Emmanuel Igoh Odokuma decried the rate of mental illnesses in the country and advised Nigerians to engage in sporting activities to reduce stress, emotional trauma and disorders which may lead to mental illnesses.
Odokuma further said that sporting activities help to reduce stress and increase longevity. He also advised governments at all levels to promote sporting activities among the citizens to reduce life expectancy rate in the country.
“We looked at how medicine and science can shape sports. We addressed issues like humanity, science and sports.
“We looked at the benefits of sports in medicine, especially mental health issues.“In managing mental health issues, sports has very essential roles to play in mental health especially psychiatric problems like depression. Sports also have economic gains.
