Registration begins for Above 50 Football competition

Organisers of the annual Above 50 Football tournament have announced the commencement of registration for the second edition of the competition.
Chairman of the Main Organising Committee of the tournament Dr. Rafiu Ladipo told newstap.com.ng that the decision to begin registration for the championship slated for October this year is to enable interested teams have enough time to prepare for the competition put in place to create opportunity for retired footballers and senior citizens to exercise themselves and network.
According to him, the registration fee for this year’s tournament will be N100,000 just as he expressed hope that the number of teams in this year’s championship will double that of the maiden edition.
“The committee is using this opportunity to inform interested clubs that want to participate in the second edition of the glamorous competition that registration will commence on Friday, May, 10, 2024 and they’re now free to contact the committee for payment of participation fee”, he stated.
” We’re also expecting that this year’s tournament will attract more teams because of the prize money involved and the successes recorded in the maiden edition and that’s why it’s important that teams register on time before the close of deadline for registration.
Meanwhile Technical Director of the tournament and one time Shooting Stars of Ibadan player, Sunny Epoche
said that his committee has started work in earnest to ensure a seamless second edition of the tournament.
He promised that the committee after completing registration processes will interface with the various teams on how best to organise the competition to the satisfaction of all.
The Above 50 Football competition is the brain child of Ambassador Dr. Edward Olutoke President of the Ikeja Chamber of Commerce Industry and Agriculture.
The maiden edition was won by Ajegunle Above 50 FC while Abeokuta and Alimosho came second and third respectively.
For winning the tournament, Ajegunle got N5 million while the first and second runners-up got N 2 million and N1 million respectively.
