Ring Matadors’ boxing extravaganza ends in Lagos
Lovers of boxing were on Friday,July, 19, 2024 treated to an action filled entertainment as the Lagos Boxing Initiative show tagged Ring Matadors’ was successfully held on that day.
Sanctioned by the Nigerian Boxing Board of Control ( NBB of C) and held at the Old School Boxing Hall of the National Stadium Surulere Lagos, all the nine bouts on the card lived up to expectation with fans rooting for more action as the fights lasted.
Speaking to newstap.com.ng on the fights, Secretary General of the NBB of C, Remi Aboderin expressed happiness with the revival that professional boxing is witnessing in the country, promising that the sanctioning body will continue to work closely with promoters to ensure that organisation of regular fights being witnessed in the country is sustained.
” Like I always say, I’m really excited about the progress we are witnessing today in professional boxing.
” The reason is not far fetched because the present board of NBB of C has created an enabling environment and we’ll continue to work with promoters to ensure we did not only maintain the momentum but have fights but continue to give boxers opportunity to excel in the noble art of self defense “, concluded Aboderin who is also the President of West African Boxing Union (WABU).
Meanwhile in the main bout of the day, West African Boxing Union Cruiserweight champion, Abubakar Faruq and former national champion, Afini Abiodun Idris ended their fight in a draw while the national Super Bantamweight challenge contest between Aliou Clement Loko of Benin Republic and Agboola Durotimi was won by the former through a 7th minute technical knockout..
In the others fights, Gabriel Yusuf had a second round technical knockout against debutant Israel Akanji in their National welterweight challenge fight.
Also, Suleiman Adeosun recorded second round technical knockout over David Cosmos in their National Super Middleweight challenge fight with Jafaru Suleiman having a three round technical knockout victory over Babatunde Akim with Agba Meshach beating Sunday Abudu by a unanimous decision in their National Catchweight challenge fight.
It was also another unanimous decision victory for Ajadi Fatai over Yusuf Mufu in their National Light Welterweight challenge contest just as Muyideen Oyakojo fighting in the Super Bantam weight category recorded another unanimous decision victory over Abdulfatai Sodiq with the National Cruiserweight fight between Tony Salam A K.A Sugar Boy and debutant Kehinde Robinson won by Sugar Boy through a third round knockout.
