Sanwo-Olu to grace 2023 Lagos Street Soccer championship opener
Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, wife of the Lagos State Governor, His Excellency Babajide Sanwo-Olu will grace the opening ceremony of the 2023 Lagos Street Soccer Championship (LSSC) set for Obele Odan mini-stadium, Surulere on Sunday, 15 October 2023.
According to the Main Organising Committee (MoC) of the competition, four games will be played on Sunday which serves as the curtain raiser for competitive games across the five districts and 20 Local Government Areas of Lagos state.
Speaking earlier today, the LSSC chairman, Bolaji Yusuf said all plans have been put in place for a once-in-a-lifetime event that Lagosians will talk about for a long time. He revealed that special invitations have also been delivered to Royal fathers, Lagos state lawmakers representing Lagos at the National Assembly, House of Assembly members, Local Government Chairmen, corporate organisations, Heads of parastatals, and other political office holders.
He urged Lagosians to troop out in their numbers to watch what promises to serve as the springboard for street soccer and grassroots football development in Lagos state.
Meanwhile, the committee has already certified the arena as ready to host the competition opener after its final inspection of the facility on Thursday. The team stormed Obele stadium for an on-site inspection of the progress recorded based on earlier recommendations which necessitated an earlier change in kick off date.
With over 1000 teams already registered, thegrassroots football championship will feature teams in the men, women and U15 categories.
