Smartcity FC unveil new jerseys for 2024/25 season, eye NPFL promotion


Nigeria National League (NNL) side, Smartcity Football Club of Lagos, on Friday November 22, 2024 unveiled it’s new set jerseys for the 2024/25 season which kicksoff on November 30th across the nation.

The colourful ceremony held at the Eko Club Bode Thomas, Surulere, Lagos, was graced by top government officials, dignitaries and football fans from the state, as they witnessed the official unveiling of two set of jerseys; blue top and down for home matches and yellow top and down for away games.

President of the club, Anthony Adeyinka Adeboye, also known as Zulu Authority among his admirers, in his speech, described the unveiling as historic occasion and marks another proud chapter in the history of the club which was formed in 2018.

He told the audience that the design of this year’s jersey embodies the club’s spirit of resilience, passion, unwavering drive to achieve greatness both on and off the pitch even as he called on corporate bodies and individuals to support and invest in the club which has become a force to reckon with in Nigerian football, just six years after its’ formation.

He charged the players to always represent the club well each time they put on the jersey as their fans, supporters and community are looking up to them to deliver their dreams and aspirations.

Adeboye also called on the fans not to relent in their cheers and unwavering support for the club as they remain the driving force behind the club’s success so far.

“Today marks yet another proud chapter in the history of our beloved club, Smartcity Football Club as we step into a new season with renewed energy, ambition, and unity,” he said.

“A football jersey is more than just a piece of clothing; it’s a symbol of identity, pride, and loyalty. It tells the story of who we are, what we stand for, and the journey we embark on together. This year’s design embodies our club’s spirit; our resilience, our passion, and our unwavering drive to achieve greatness both on and off the pitch.

“To our players, this jersey represents the trust and hopes of everyone who supports this club. Every time you wear it, remember that you are not just representing yourselves, but also the dreams and aspirations of every fan, every child, and every community member who looks up to this team and you are to showcase your passion and tenacity for what you love the most. Play with courage, honour, and all your heart,” he added.

“Also, to our incredible fans, you are the heartbeat of this club. Your cheers, songs, and unwavering support fuel the team to reach new heights each time. This jersey is for you too-a symbol of our shared passion and commitment. Wear it with pride and let it remind the world that we are united in our pursuit of success.

“As we unveil the New Jersey today, let it serve as a reminder that this season is a fresh start, a chance to push boundaries, break records, and make history. Together, as one team, one family, we will rise to every challenge and celebrate every victory,” he stressed while declaring that the club’s aim this season is to gain promotion to the Nigerian Premier Football League (NPFL).

Also speaking at the unveiling ceremony, ex-international and a former chairman of Lagos State Football Association, Waidi Akani commended the management of Smartcity FC for it’s visionary move that has placed the club amongst the best in the country in merchandising as well as marketing.

Former owner of defunct Obanta FC and Teluwo FC, Adewale Teluwo in a separate interview, poured praises on Adeboye , whom he said has contributed immersely in grassroots sports develpoment, particularly in football.

“I’m impressed with what is happening today; the unveiling of Smartcity FC new jerseys for the 2024/25 season. It shows that the clubs are improving in the area of management and I must commend Adeboye for a job well done and should keep it up.

Running a football club at that level is not easy. I’ve been there before and knows the challenges. So, we can support Smartcity by purchasing some of these jerseys to boost their financing,” he said.
