Sporting events take centre stage at NIS students’ week
It was a beehive of activities at the Day 3 of the ongoing students’ week of the National Institute For Sports ( NIS), Lagos as all the departments took to the field, track and courts to showcase their talents in various sports.
The day started with a cycling event, followed by volleyball, handball, futsal football, football and track and field event to the delight of students and spectators who trooped out in their numbers to watch the coaches put into practice what they’re taught in class.
In the football competition, Advanced Class defeated ND Class by 2-0 while the Professionals piped NIS Staff Team by a lone goal.
In Handball, Advanced Class played a four all draw with ND Class while Professional Class defeated Advanced Class by 8-6 just as ND Class lost by 4-7 to Professional.
The day also witnessed actions in the men and women 200meters, 4×100meters and 4×400 meters mixed relay.
Meanwhile President of NIS Students’ Union, Omefe Michael Kanayo has charged students of the only institution saddled with the responsibility of producing coaches in the country to continue with the spirit of sportsmanship being exhibited at the various sporting events, urging them to sustain it.
” I’m happy that everything is going as planned in the students’ week and I urge the students to continue with the spirit of sportsmanship being exhibited by them as that’s the only way to make it a memorable event”, he stressed.
The event continues today with a
seminar by 9 am after which more sporting activities will be held.
