The Nigeria Women’s Football League Premiership has been expanded from 14 to 16 clubs and the Championship from 12 to 20 clubs, while the 10-team Nationwide League to the States League has been restructured starting from the 2023–2024 season, which begins on November 15.
This was part of the resolutions at the Nigeria Women Football League Annual General Assembly held on Thursday, October 5, 2023, at the BON Hotel, Ikeja GRA, Lagos State.
The minutes approved by 22 club representatives saw the Congress confirm the promotion of Dannaz Ladies, Sunshine Queens, Lakeside Queens, and Ekiti Queens to the NWFL Premiership from the Championship and the relegation of Ibom Angels and Osun Babes to the NWFL Championship.
Also approved is a league format of two groups of A and B for the 2023–2024 NWFL Premiership season.

The AGA approved Ekiti Queens against Delta Queens as the star match of the opening day of the NWFL Premiership season, scheduled to be played at the Oluyemi Kayode Stadium, Ado Ekiti on Wednesday, November 15, 2023.
It was also agreed that only stadia that meet the required NWFL stadium facilities criteria would be approved for the 2023–2024 Premiership season.
