Stakeholders berate Gara Gombe over comments on Eagles Libya ordeal
Football stakeholders across the country have berated one – time Chairman of Gombe FA Alhaji Ahmed Shuaibu Gara Gombe over his unguided utterances on the Super Eagles ordeal in Libya noting that he’s taking his criticisms too far and should for once be a patriotic Nigerian
Gara Gombe was reported to have said that Nigeria should have reached out to the Match Commissioner and play the match instead of boycotting it not minding the treatment meted out to the Super Eagles and officials but the stakeholders believe that it is share madness for anybody to posit that the Eagles should have headed to Benghazi for the match.
Reacting to Gara Gombe’s statement, Coach of FC Banjo , Adeleke Banjo reminded him that football is not a do or die affair and wondered how the team can reach out to the Match Commissioner when all efforts to make such move was aborted by the stadium officials.
“The question I want to ask Gara Gombe is what rules of football allows the hosting team to treat the opposing team like à criminal?. And what kind of punishment that worths taking the life of our players and officials as the pilot gave candid evidence that he was diverted by higher authority
” What I discovered is that Alhaji Gara Gombe was only trying to seek for relevance but he should remember that he should not do that at the detriment of the country and stop criticizing just for criticism sake.
Also expressing surprise at Gombe’s comment, Coach of Rising Stars FC of Ibadan, Abdulkadir Fatai expressed surprise that Gara Gombe who prize himself as a sports administrator does not know that at both the local and international stage, football cannot be kicked by players who’ve been starved and slept on bare floor like street beggars just as he advised him to for once be patriotic.
“To be sincere with you, I’m reacting to this because the unfortunate statement came from a person who is supposed to know. Had it been it was a novice that made that statement, I wouldn’t have bothered to make a comment.
“It’s unfortunate that an incident which every Nigerian and other countries condemned is being supported by a Nigerian who is even a major stakeholder in the sport. He need to be cautioned against making such unguided utterances in future.
“In the essence what I’m saying is that Alhaji Gara Gombe should have a rethink about some comments coming from him and even apologise to Nigerians for working against the interest of the country.
Fatai noted that the worse that could happen is for Libya to take the maximum 3 points but Nigeria has sent a message to the world about how inhumane the Libyans are and they will not like to try it again.
He accused the Libyans of having an evil intension long before the Mediterranean Knights came to Nigeria for the first leg match
“They had already had their evil plans on ground about the diversion of our players so as to force them play in a bumpy stadium.
” I alerted the NFF and advised them to raise alarm to CAF so as to allow them play in a better stadium but nobody took it serious until they witnessed it live. They masterminded their traveling itineraries to label Nigeria bad so as to carry out their evil plans against us”, concludes Fatai.
