SWAN congratulates Imo Sports Commissioner

Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, Imo Chapter has expressed their delight on the appointment and swearing in of Hon. Everestus Onyeocha, as the State Commissioner for Youths & Sports Development, describing him as a round peg in a round hole.

Onyeocha who’s former Transition Committee Chairman of Orlu council area of Imo State was among the 24 Commissioners and Special Aides sworn in last Tuesday by Governor Hope Uzodimma, at the New Executive Council Chamber, Government House, Owerri.

In a press statement dated Thursday 2nd May 2024 signed by Rotn. Everest Ezihe and Mr Tunde Liadi, the Chairman and Secretary respectively of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, SWAN Imo State Chapter commended Governor Uzodimma for his visionary leadership and commitments in the State’s grassroot sports developments and transformations.

The Association informed the Commissioner that as critical stakeholders in sports development and transformation that they are willing for a collaborative partnership on strategic ways of moving the State forward.

The association also informed the new Commissioner of their patriotic desire in assisting him to achieve proper dissemination of his Ministry’s activities noting that his predecessor , Hon. Emeka Okoronkwo performed creditably despite his short stint, due to his respect, regards and recognition of the strategic roles of the association and its members in the Ministry’s activities..

The Sports Journalists further enjoined Onyeocha to ensure that the upliftment of Sports in the State must be encompassing and not just football alone.

They also advised him on the need to ensure that Heartland Queens FC, Owerri perform well at the NWFL Premiership Super 6 while Heartland FC, Owerri that’s battling towards relegation should remain in the elite division beyond this season as the darling team of the state, that requires priority attention.
