Sportsville CEO condemns Cyber bullying of Iwobi

Nigerians have been called to stand up against the on-going cyber bullying of Super Eagles and Fulham midfielder, Alex Iwobi.

Making the call this morning is Frank Ilaboya, the Chief Executive Officer of Sportsville Communication Services Ltd, the Producers of Sportsville, one of Nigeria’s longest running sports shows on TV.

“We at Sportsville are totally against the on-going cyber bullying of Iwobi. Agreed, he may not have played up to the expectations of many in the just concluded AFCON, I think it’s totally unfair to single out just one player out of the lot.

“Winning a silver medal in a tournament that involved the best of the best in Africa needs to be applauded and appreciated considering our build up to the tournament.

“Iwobi has been part and parcel of the Eagles journey since coming to the party over five years ago.

“The young man should not be made to feel that he took a wrong decision coming to play for his fatherland,” the one time Chairman of Edo State Football Association added.

Mr. Ilaboya, whose organisation
initiated annual awards to appreciate and honour deserving Nigerians for their contributions to sports development, further harped on the need to appreciate more than criticize those on national duty.

“We did the same to Okoye Maduka after our exit in the 2022 AFCON in Cameroon, and what has been the outcome? We ended up losing one of the most enterprising, flamboyant and youthful goalkeepers.

“Today, Okoye has disappeared from the national team, due mainly, to the bullying that followed our defeat by Tunisia in the knock out stage of 2022 AFCON.

“The Okoye experience is still very fresh in our minds, and that should serve as a lesson that we shouldn’t be too hard on our stars anytime they under perform on national duty.

The Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Owan Enoh as well as Eagles off field captain, Ahmed Musa have also joined calls to stop the current cyber bullying of Iwobi.
